Saturday evening brings what might be seen as the heart, the very core of our midwinter festival – a performance of Schubert’s heart-wrenching, unbearably beautiful cycle “Die Winterreise”. The Winter Journey follows the meanderings of a wanderer who has lost love and with it, his desire to live.  It is nothing if not bleak; the music is however so incredible that one is uplifted as much as downhearted at the end. German baritone Jochen Kupfer makes his Irish début with artistic director Finghin Collins at the piano.
