Four international festivals from Ireland (Cellissimo), Sweden (Fairplay Chamber Music), Norway (Valdres Sommersymfoni), and the Netherlands (Piano Biennale), have teamed up with Causa Creations, an Austrian game development studio, for Songs of Travel.

Conceived by Music for Galway’s CEO Anna Lardi, and led by MfG, Songs of Travel (SOT) is a 3-year transnational Creative Europe Cooperation Project that aims to raise awareness and foster empathy for climate change and migration through music. It also strives to develop and implement a sustainable operational model for specialised music festivals while improving access to, and circulation of, contemporary classical music.

The outputs from the Project will be five musical scores, four SOT festival strands, an interactive motion comic, an education resource, green guidelines for specialised music festivals, and a report on sustainability research. Music for Galway is thrilled to lead this €1.4m project that focusses on two urgent inextricably-linked issues, climate change and migration. We and our Partner festivals aim to lead by example: to inspire other specialised music festivals to adopt a sustainable model; to influence people’s attitudes about climate change and migration through the presentation of music, in combination with festival talks and workshops, our education package, and our interactive motion comic; to inspire discourse and motivation; and to make a real and lasting impact!

It is envisioned that Songs of Travel will live on long after the Project officially ends through sustained change and an ongoing ripple effect.
