ARTIST PROFILE:
Ríona Ó Duinnín
Ríona Ó Duinnín studied flute with William Dowdall at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. During this time she received numerous awards and prizes including the Ulster Bank Music Foundation Award on RTE's Late Late Show. A Fulbright Scholarship enabled her to study for her Masters degree in New York with Jeanne Baxtresser, Principal Flute of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. While in the US Ríona was invited to perform at many music festivals and was awarded a fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Centre for 2 years, studying and performing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Ríona is a founding member of Triocca, a flute, viola and harp trio which has toured worldwide and extensively throughout the UK and Ireland. They have also had their first CD released on the Lyric FM label. She has performed as Principal Flute with many orchestras including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, Irish National Opera and was Principal Flute with the Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra from 2006 - 2019. She is currently on the faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music and in 2019 Ríona was appointed Associate Flute with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.
