ARTIST PROFILE:
Laoise McMullin
Laoise McMullin is a Galway-born pianist, harpsichordist and composer. Laoise recently completed her Master’s Degree in Music Performance and Composition in the Royal Irish Academy of Music, achieving a Distinction result.
With a particular passion for early music, Laoise performs regularly as a solo and chamber musician, equally comfortable at the piano and the harpsichord. With a focus on historically informed performance practice, recent chamber music performances include early music recitals at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival and the Sligo Baroque Festival. Laoise was also selected for a collaborative recital project between the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music in London at the renowned Cobbe Collection of Historical Keyboard Instruments in Surrey, England.
A keen composer, Laoise also enjoys performing music from the 20th century and contemporary repertoire, much of which inspires her own works. Laoise has recently had a vocal trio, Makeda, performed in the National Gallery of Ireland as part of a commission by the NGI for their exhibition honouring the trailblazing female artist Lavinia Fontana. She was also the recipient of the Matheson commission bursary for RIAM composition students.
Laoise looks forward to upcoming performance and composition projects across the 2024/2025 season.
