ARTIST PROFILE: Caroline Meltzer

Caroline Melzer dazzles with her “clear, broad, and bright soprano” (Eleonore Büning, *FAZ*) and her unusually wide repertoire, ranging from major lyrical and dramatic roles to operetta and contemporary works written specifically for her.

Highlights of the 2025/26 season included the season opening at the Opéra de Lille and a return to the Stuttgart State Opera. She appeared at the Kronberg Festival, performed Messiaen's Harawi in Geneva, Kurtág's The Messages of the Late R. V. Troussova with the UMZE Ensemble under Thomas Adès in Budapest, and joined Collegium Novum Zurich and Heinz Holliger in performances of Kurtág's 4 Capriccios and Songs on Poems by Anna Akhmatova.

Contemporary music is a particular focus of her work. She has maintained close artistic ties with György Kurtág for many years and passionately devotes herself to his vocal works. Together with violinist Nurit Stark, she recorded the Kafka Fragments for BIS, a recording that received the German Record Critics’ Prize. She has also collaborated closely with Aribert Reimann and Wolfgang Rihm and has worked with Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien and Ensemble Intercontemporain.

Caroline Melzer has appeared in venues such as the Musikverein Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Berlin and Suntory Hall Tokyo, Caroline Melzer teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts and holds a professorship in Mannheim.
