The Gealán Quartet “A bright spell”, formed in the Spring of 2021, the Gealán Quartet began their musical journey together. Composed of four of Ireland’s most gifted young musicians hailing from Cork, Dublin, Galway and Wicklow and after completing their third successful tour as part of the National String Quartet Foundation (NSQF), with a residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris in the Spring of 2022, a performance at the Westival Festival, as part of the Westport Festival of Chamber music, the Gealán demonstrate that they are a tour de force and destined to be a regular sight upon our stages.

It was in the heart of Paris that this musical relationship was sealed. With vast musical experience among them as individuals, both as soloists and as part of numerous ensembles and orchestras around the world, they combine the mastery of their instruments as chamber musicians.

Performing works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Mozart, Grieg, Dvorak, Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, along with Irish composers Sam Perkins and Michael Doherty, the latter who was commissioned by the Gealán Quartet, to compose his remarkable and highly praised String Quartet No. 3 which received its world premiere as part of their Autumn 2023 tour.

With a reputation for showing their more intimate and personal side, always with fiery and heartfelt performances, the Gealán prove with every performance, that they are an audience favourite.

In addition to their two upcoming national tours in 2025 and 2026, the Gealán are delighted to announce an invitation to perform as part of the Music for Galway’s Midwinter Festival in January of 2026.
