Seán Warren a 26 year old Dublin born cellist who completed his BMus Degree in the Cork School of Music and recently graduated from The University of Limerick with a Masters in Music Performance. Sean has been embedded primarily in a classical upbringing and has held numerous principal cellist roles in orchestras and chamber groups and has toured as a soloist with the Dublin Youth Orchestra. He continues to play regularly in orchestras and quartets but found a hidden passion for traditional Irish Music in his second year of college. With this passion, Sean received some Irish music tuition from Johnny McCarthy and gained more confidence in the tradition from playing along with his good friends Maria Ryan and Lucia Mac Partlin. Seán wanted to dive deeper into the role of the cello in traditional music and saw the huge possibilities of what the cello can bring to the genre from witnessing the playing of Natalie Hass on YouTube. During his masters, Seán continued his classical training from Irish Chamber Orchestra cellist Aoife Nic Athlaoich but also got a chance to participate in masterclasses with Natalie Haas and Rushed Eggleston, who are pushing the boundaries of cello techniques and styles. Sean continues to explore these alternative styles in cello playing and hopes to push the boundaries of what is possible as a cellist in the band Strung. Seans experiences from playing in Punk Rock bands to 16th Centuary Baroque ensembles has kept him learning and discovering what is possible as a cellist and is witnessing a new movement with modern cellists today. The cello has no boundaries.
