The two central works which give the concert its title are both by German composer\, theorist\, writer and poet Christoph Demantius (1567–1643): Weissagung des Leiden und Sterben Jesu Christi\, and Johannespassion. This Passion setting is the last and finest example of the “motet” passion\, and combines ancient style with innovative and colourful treatment of the text. She has since returned to Indiana as a guest Professor and been made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London. \nKatherine has been Leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra since 2002 and regularly directs from the leader’s chair. As director and soloist\, with the ICO\, she has toured Germany\, China and Singapore\, and appeared at  festivals including the West Cork Chamber Music Festival\, and the Kilkenny Arts Festival. Katherine directs ICO national tours\, which take the orchestra all over Ireland. She works closely with composers of contemporary  music and in 2024 will be performing a piece written for the ICO and solo violin by David Fennessy. Their album can be found on all the usual platforms and they are making plans for a second album. 2024 will see them tour Ireland and the UK. \nIn 2020 Katherine became Artistic Director of the SCS Killaloe Music Festival for which she devises programmes to include world class musicians over a weekend in the beautiful towns of Killaloe/Ballina\, also her home. She is also a regular guest at chamber music festivals in Ireland and the UK\, most recently at the Whittington Festival. In 2024 she will be a soloist at festivals including the West Wicklow festival and the Dublin International Chamber Music Festival. \nKatherine was a member of the Academy of St Martin in the fields for many years touring with the group across the globe. She has been a regular guest leader with orchestras including the Manchester Camerata\, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra\, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra the City of  Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and most recently the Northern Sinfonia. She has been guest soloist with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra and gave the world premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Double Concerto at the Aldeburgh Festival in the UK. \nTeaching is a big passion for Katherine and she has been involved in countless innovative student projects over the years. Anna steered the company through the challenges of recession and the changeover from its first paid former artistic director to the current one at the start of 2013. In close collaboration with the artistic director Finghin Collins and associate AD Mark Duley\, she devised and oversaw SoundScapes\, the MfG programme for Galway 2020\, and co-created Cellissimo\, out of which came the basic concept for Songs of Travel (SOT). SOT is a mid-size Creative Europe project that seeks to present co-commissioned music in such a way as to increase the empathy of all involved towards two burning issues of today: the environment and migration. Four festivals and one boutique gaming development company have come together to deliver this project. Some of the outputs of SOT will flow into Cellissimo\, a new 9-day cello festival in May 2024\, of which Galway Bay is Calling is part. \nAnna was born in Switzerland. Nee was born in Glasgow in 1959. He returned to Letterkenny\, in County Donegal\, with his family when he was twelve. It was here that he began performing in punk bands\, such as Joe Petrol and the Petrol Bombs and Hemlock. He lived in London during the late seventies where he continued to perform\, taking inspiration from the growing punk movement. \nNee returned to Ireland in 1982\, and since then has employed a variety of media\, including street performance\, theatre\, radio\, poetry\, music\, live-streaming and installation art\, to pioneer his own unique style of story-telling. He is the author of a book of haikus “The Apocalypse Came on a Friday”\, as well as numerous one-man shows\, including “The Derry Boat” (1998)\, “Limavady My Heart’s Delight” (2006)\, “Dead Rooster Blues” (2008) and “Radio Rosario” (2017).
